    The phoenician bundle provides Postscript Type1 fonts for the semitic 
script in use from about 1600 BC, and which formed the basis for all the 
world's alphabets. Mirrored forms are provided for typesetting either 
left-to-right or right-to-left (as the Phoenicians did). This is one of a 
series for archaic scripts.

    To install the package:
o run: latex phoenician.ins, which will generate:
       phoenician.sty
       *.fd files
       phoenician.map
o Move *.sty and *.fd files to a location where LaTeX will find them
    e.g., .../texmf-local/tex/latex/phoenician
o Move *.afm, *.pfb and *.tfm files to where LaTeX looks for font information
    e.g., .../texmf-var/fonts/afm/public/archaic/*.afm
          .../texmf-var/fonts/type1/public/archaic/*.pfb
          .../texmf-var/fonts/tfm/public/archaic/*.tfm
o Add the *.map information to the dvips/pdftex font maps
o Refresh the database
 (for more information on the above see the FAQ).

o run: (pdf)latex tryphnc for a test of the font

    To generate a second copy of the manual (which is already supplied as a PDF file):
o run: latex phoenician.dtx
o (for an index run: makeindex -s gind.ist *.idx)
o run: latex *.dtx
o Print *.dvi for a hardcopy of the package manual

phoenician – Fonts for the Phoenician script in use from about 1600 BC

The (Semitic) Phoenician script is in a direct line of ancestry for all the western world's alphabets. The fonts provide Mirrored forms for typesetting either left-to-right or right-to-left (as the Phoenicians did). The fonts are provided in Adobe Type 1 format.

This is one of a series of archaic fonts.
